Pollard<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">A quase 320 anos-luz de dist\u00e2ncia, na direc\u00e7\u00e3o da constela\u00e7\u00e3o de Balan\u00e7a, encontra-se WASP-189b, um exoplaneta classificado como J\u00fapiter ultra-quente. Os J\u00fapiteres ultra-quentes t\u00eam temperaturas suficientemente elevadas para vaporizar elementos formadores de rochas, como o magn\u00e9sio (Mg), o sil\u00edcio (Si) e o ferro (Fe), oferecendo uma oportunidade rara de observar estes elementos atrav\u00e9s da espectroscopia &#8211; a t\u00e9cnica de decompor a luz nos seus comprimentos de onda componentes para identificar a presen\u00e7a de subst\u00e2ncias qu\u00edmicas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Uma equipa internacional de astr\u00f3nomos liderada por Jorge Antonio Sanchez, estudante na Universidade do Estado do Arizona, observou WASP-189b utilizando o instrumento IGRINS (Immersion GRating INfrared Spectrograph) quando este esteve temporariamente montado no telesc\u00f3pio Gemini South, no Chile. Este poderoso instrumento permitiu-lhes medir simultaneamente o conte\u00fado de magn\u00e9sio e sil\u00edcio na atmosfera do exoplaneta.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Esta \u00e9 a primeira vez que tal medi\u00e7\u00e3o \u00e9 realizada, e os dados revelam que WASP-189b partilha a mesma propor\u00e7\u00e3o de magn\u00e9sio para sil\u00edcio que a sua estrela hospedeira. Esta descoberta fornece a primeira evid\u00eancia observacional de uma hip\u00f3tese amplamente aceite acerca da forma\u00e7\u00e3o de planetas e abre um novo caminho para compreender como os exoplanetas se formam e evoluem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;Estas descobertas demonstram a capacidade do Gemini para nos ajudar a compreender as caracter\u00edsticas do not\u00e1vel conjunto de exoplanetas na vizinhan\u00e7a do nosso Sistema Solar&#8221;, afirma Chris Davis, director do programa da NSF para o NOIRLab. &#8220;Tais descobertas s\u00f3 s\u00e3o poss\u00edveis gra\u00e7as aos instrumentos de ponta do Gemini&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Pensa-se que planetas gigantes e quentes como WASP-189b tenham uma camada exterior de g\u00e1s cuja composi\u00e7\u00e3o qu\u00edmica \u00e9 influenciada pelo disco de material no qual se formaram, conhecido como discos protoplanet\u00e1rios. E os investigadores assumem que a propor\u00e7\u00e3o de elementos formadores de rochas num disco protoplanet\u00e1rio corresponde \u00e0 da estrela hospedeira, uma vez que ambos nasceram da mesma nuvem primordial de material.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Esta liga\u00e7\u00e3o qu\u00edmica inferida entre uma estrela e os planetas que se formam \u00e0 sua volta \u00e9 frequentemente utilizada para modelar a composi\u00e7\u00e3o de exoplanetas rochosos. Esta liga\u00e7\u00e3o baseava-se anteriormente em medi\u00e7\u00f5es realizadas no nosso Sistema Solar e, at\u00e9 agora, n\u00e3o tinha sido observada directamente em planetas noutros locais.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;WASP-189b proporciona-nos um muito necess\u00e1rio ponto de refer\u00eancia observacional para a nossa compreens\u00e3o da forma\u00e7\u00e3o de planetas terrestres, uma vez que oferece uma quantidade mensur\u00e1vel que valida a suposta semelhan\u00e7a entre a composi\u00e7\u00e3o estelar e a propor\u00e7\u00e3o de material rochoso em torno das estrelas hospedeiras utilizado para formar planetas&#8221;, afirma Sanchez.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Esta suposi\u00e7\u00e3o n\u00e3o s\u00f3 \u00e9 \u00fatil para compreender a forma\u00e7\u00e3o de planetas, como tamb\u00e9m \u00e9 fundamental para o campo da astrobiologia, que inclui o estudo de ambientes habit\u00e1veis no Sistema Solar. Ao medir a composi\u00e7\u00e3o qu\u00edmica de uma estrela, os cientistas podem inferir a abund\u00e2ncia de elementos formadores de rochas nos exoplanetas da estrela, o que pode determinar as condi\u00e7\u00f5es geoqu\u00edmicas que tornam um planeta habit\u00e1vel.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Por exemplo, os elementos formadores de rochas na Terra s\u00e3o, em parte, respons\u00e1veis pelo nosso campo magn\u00e9tico protector, pela tect\u00f3nica de placas e pela liberta\u00e7\u00e3o de subst\u00e2ncias qu\u00edmicas essenciais \u00e0 vida na nossa atmosfera, oceanos e solo.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00c0 medida que o campo dos exoplanetas se volta para a caracteriza\u00e7\u00e3o de planetas terrestres e procura elucidar as condi\u00e7\u00f5es habit\u00e1veis de mundos rochosos, as evid\u00eancias emp\u00edricas que validam a rela\u00e7\u00e3o entre as composi\u00e7\u00f5es estelares e planet\u00e1rias representam um fundamental passo em frente. E o n\u00edvel de resolu\u00e7\u00e3o espectral necess\u00e1rio para este tipo de estudos est\u00e1 actualmente dispon\u00edvel apenas em telesc\u00f3pios terrestres.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8220;O nosso estudo demonstra a capacidade dos espectr\u00f3grafos terrestres de alta resolu\u00e7\u00e3o para determinar a presen\u00e7a de esp\u00e9cies cr\u00edticas como o magn\u00e9sio e o sil\u00edcio, dois elementos fundamentais a partir dos quais os planetas rochosos se formam&#8221;, afirma o co-autor do estudo Michael Line, professor associado da Universidade do Estado do Arizona. &#8220;Esta evolu\u00e7\u00e3o abre uma dimens\u00e3o totalmente nova no nosso estudo das atmosferas dos exoplanetas&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"body_text\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">Novas observa\u00e7\u00f5es de alta resolu\u00e7\u00e3o em m\u00faltiplos comprimentos de onda, para estudar atmosferas de exoplanetas como a de WASP-189b, v\u00e3o ajudar a revelar o invent\u00e1rio qu\u00edmico mais abrangente que existe em mundos distantes.
